Today is my Dad's 60th birthday! So I just wanted to share a little memory that we did for the grandkids in his honor. When he passed, Dec. 10 2008, we went through all his clothes and decided that we wanted to make a keep sake from them. Most of his time was spent wearing a white shirt, tie, and suite because he was a seminary teacher and bishop, so when he did where other clothes you remembered them. He was a big supporter of the Enterprise Wolves sports teams and BYU so he had many T-shirts! So we took his casual clothes and made quilts from them with a sports T-shirt logo in the center of each one!

I enjoyed taking the time to cut out all of the squares. I enjoyed thinking of all the memories I had with my dad as I cut each shirt. Here is a pile of all the quilts before I sewed them together. All 14 of them!!

My mom gave each grandkid a blanket for Christmas with this poem

Here's a warm tender keepsake

From Grandpa Hess to you

Remember all the good times

What we used to do.....

Games, rides, water fights

Cooking, camping, stories and fun

We even did some hard work

When shared, it got done

Please remember in the coming years

Our memories will tie me to you

So be happy, Love the Gospel

Be good and Be true

And if you get blue or lonely

And wish your Grandpa were here

Wrap these momories around you

Know that I'm holding you Dear.

Here are pictures of the grandkids with there quilts!

The quilts are such a great idea, usually clothes get thrown away and I think that was such an awesome idea for a memory! I miss your dad too!

I love this idea Julie! They all turned out so great! I was just telling Casey last night about all the great memories I have from my childhood and visiting all my cousins every summer in Southern UT. I always looked forward to it and we always had the best time! We have the best family ever and your dad was definitely my favorite uncle! I really miss him a lot, and will always have great memories of him!

Love ya,
Andrea

Julie, The quilts are awesome and I love the poem. Seeing the picture of your dad, really brought back a lot of great memories. I can't believe still that he isn't here with us. I miss him too, he was a great man and still is. He is doing great work. Like Andrea said, we do have a great family and I hope that one day we will all be worthy to be together forever.

Julie- I didn't know you guys did that. what a nice thing to do- I'm sure it was meaningful just cutting and sewing them all. I'll remember this idea when our time comes!
